So, I planned to get my hair straightened and trimmed on Sunday, January 15th because I had a banquet to go to. I thought it would be the perfect time to get a trim since I hadn’t straightened my hair since September 15th. The fact that I had to relinquish control to some one else to straighten my hair, bothered me a little bit. It made me realize how brutal straightening is to my strands. Anyway, I was pretty pleased with the results and the trim, there wasn’t too much taken off and my split ends are gone!
January 15th will mark 4 months since I last straightened my hair. I’m going to a banquet that night, and I thought it would be the perfect time to get my hair professionally done, straightened and trimmed properly. I’m accustomed to trimming my hair at least once a month, so going 4 months without a trim has probably been brutal on my ends.
Since I entered the Hairscapades GOC (Grow Out Challenge) I’ve been really careful with the way I treat my hair. The challenge started on August 1st 2011, but I entered the challenge in the middle of September, so I decided to straighten and trim my hair at that time so I could start the challenge without split ends. My roomie gave me a little trim, and since then I’ve been washing and deep conditioning once a week along with monthly henna treatments and A LOT of protective styling.
I did a length check after my hair was trimmed in Sept. and I just did another one yesterday. Comparing the two pictures I can see how much my hair has grown in only 4 months, I never imagined I would have made it to Armpit Length so quickly. In the first pic, I hadn’t made my GOC t-shirt yet, but I compared the lines on the t-shirt in the second pic and made a line across the pic where the lines would have been. I can’t wait to see what lengths my hair will reach in 2012!
I know I’m a little late, but I hope everyone had a happy holiday season! It was important to me that I had awesome hair for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. A couple of months ago, I was thinking about how I would possibly get through the holiday season without straightening my hair. I’m very happy that I did it, with the help of twist, flexirods, and Curlformers. So here are a few pics of my holiday hair!
So since I began my natural journey, I’ve realized that the left side of my hair has been really straight and flat in its natural state. I always thought that maybe there were some relaxed ends left and it would grow out. However, it seems as though the texture of my hair isn’t changing even though I have cut all my relaxed ends off and I haven’t straightened my hair in almost 4 months. I have done many protein treatments with the ApHogee 2 Minute Reconstructor to see if maybe my curls would come back on the left side of my head, but I’m not sure if I ever had curls there in the first place. Doing henna treatments has made the right side (curly side) of my head a little looser so the two sides of my head match up a little bit more, but I want to get to the point where I’ll be able to do Wash N Gos and have it look acceptable. Hopefully as my hair grows, it won’t be such a noticeable difference. Any suggestions as to how I can better deal with this problem?
