So after a 5 month hiatus, I’ve finally decided to straighten my hair again. I wanted to see how much length I’ve retained and also to trim my ends a little. I started off by washing my hair with Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa Shampoo, then I used the ApHogee 2 minute Reconstructor as a quick protein treatment, I followed up with Aubrey Organics GPB Conditioner and put a plastic cap over my hair for about an hour. I blow-dried my hair in sections after spraying my hair with Paul Mitchell’s Moisture Mist and TreSemme heat protectant. Blow-drying my hair took an hour. When I was done blow-drying, I began flat-ironing it in sections and that process took another hour. I purchased a 1″ Sedu flat iron because my Chi doesn’t work anymore. The Sedu did a pretty good job, I’m happy that it has a heat setting because the Chi did not. I kept the heat on 360 degrees, it didn’t get my hair bone straight, but I wasn’t willing to go higher in temperature and risk heat damage.
All in all, I’m happy with the length I was able to retain, and I’ll probably continue to straighten my hair once every 4-5 months or so. I trimmed my hair a few days after I straightened it, I also did this in sections and only took off the split ends and SSKs I noticed. I also measured my hair after I trimmed it to monitor my growth. The hair at my nape is 11.5″, in the middle of my is 11″, the front left is around 10″, and the front right is 12-13″. The reason for the disparity in the front is because I got my hair cut curly, and the front left is straighter when curly, so it looks even with the other side when it’s curly. I’ll do an official length check in a few days. My goal for 2013 is too continue to keep my ends healthy so that by the end of the year I’ll have an overall length of about 16″ this will take me probably about halfway between BSL and MBL.
